Last Friday, November 8th, Wimbledon High School GDST hosted a conference organized by the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools, which brought together experts in Single-Gender Education to explore pedagogical approaches and share experiences. The conference offered a unique opportunity to learn about methodologies that advocate learning in environments specialized in girls, as well as to reflect on the role of this model in the current educational context.

On behalf of Iguales y Diferentes | Equal and Different, Miguel Dionis Raurell and the community manager of Iguales y Diferentes | Equal and Different Sofía Valladares Ibaceta, former student of La Vall, offered a session titled “The Transformative Power of the New Single-Gender Education.” In their presentation, they highlighted how this pedagogical model can promote deep learning and address individual needs, helping to overcome stereotypes and promote an inclusive environment.

The event also provided an opportunity to learn more about the development of Single-Gender Education in the United Kingdom, where this model is one option within the educational system, accepted and valued in various contexts. “It is always enriching to step beyond borders and observe different perspectives,” commented one of the attendees, emphasizing the importance of this international collaboration.

Thanks to the efforts of the organizers such as Sharon Cromie and Jane Carroll, and the support of GDST (The Girls’ Day School Trust) and Cheryl Giovannoni, the event was a platform to strengthen international alliances. Iguales y Diferentes | Equal and Different, which collaborates with associations of parents and alumni, was accompanied by representatives of various schools, such as the Parent Association of Colegio Senara, represented by Mercedes Calvente Santos. Susana Hernández Peigneux d’Egmont and Berta Pla were also remembered, who were intended to represent the Parent Association and the Alumni Association of Colegio Guadalaviar, but finally could not attend due to storm DANA that hit Valencia that week.

This meeting reaffirmed the growing relevance of the New Single-Gender Education as an educational option that, along with other methodologies, contributes to educational pluralism and quality.
